REGENERATIVE BEAUTY AND CERTIFICATIONS
At The Organic Skin Co., our north star is to create products that deliver great skin (thanks, CO2 extracts!) and which care for our planet at the same time; products that are not only sustainable, but regenerative too. Hereās how we go about itā¦
IT BEGINS WITH THE SOIL
Our soil is dying. It's an uncomfortable truth, one we don't speak about enough, but it's happening, and the consequences for us and our children are dire.
In our rush to grow crops quickly and cheaply, we've adopted farming methods that have degraded our farmlands, and stripped them of much of their nutritional value.
Here are some statistics we should all be aware of:
Devastating, right?Ā
Thankfully, all is not lost... yet. We can regenerate our farmlands by adopting organic farming practices, including crop rotations. If we do, we can replenish our soil, clean our waterways, and support vital ecosystems.
THAT'S WHY, AT THE ORGANIC SKIN CO., EVERYTHING BEGINS FOR US WITH OUR SUPPORT FOR ORGANIC FARMING.
REGENERATIVE PACKAGING
ALONGSIDE OUR COMMITMENT TO ORGANIC FARMING AND REPLENISHING THE SOIL, WE ALSO WANT TO PLAY OUR PART IN HELPING ELIMINATE WASTE.
It almost goes without saying that the beauty industry (along with numerous others!) needs to do more to minimize waste. Did you know, for example, that 120 billion units of beauty packaging are created annually, a lot of it plastic? That's a lot of packaging. To put it into perspective, if you were to stack all those packages one beside the other and walk past them, you'd end up traveling the same distance as it would take to circle the Earth 270 times!
Add in the fact that 18 million acres of forest are lost to the beauty industry annually, that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050, that most plastics take 400 years to break down, and it's clear we have a problem.
As a whole, the beauty industry is beginning to take steps in the right direction, but we do need to get over our dependence on plastic and extraneous packaging and embrace circular sustainability. Our very future and the long-term viability of our planet depends upon it.
Here are the steps we've taken to create next-gen sustainable packaging...
COMPOSTABLE, ECO-PULP OUTER PACKAGING - WE'RE BREAKING THE MOLD!
We're immensely proud to be leading the way with our molded, eco-pulp, sustainable packaging.
WHEN IT COMES TO SUSTAINABILITY, THIS PACKAGING HAS SEVERAL UNIQUE ADVANTAGES OVER CONVENTIONAL BEAUTY PACKAGING. IT IS:
PCR ALUMINUM TUBES - DESIGNED FOR CIRCULARITY
We use high quality, PCR aluminum tubes throughout our skincare and hybrid makeup lines.
REPRESENTING THE LATEST IN ECO-INNOVATION, THESE TUBES ARE:
THEY ALSO COME WITH THE FOLLOWING PERFORMANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES. ALUMINUM TUBES:
Retain all their outstanding properties, no matter how many times they're recycled.
Protect contents from light, air, and temperature fluctuations, helping to prevent contamination and preserve the integrity of the product.
Have a small carbon footprint, with significantly less emissions than conventional plastic tubes and containers.
Are readily separated from other waste.
Have a longer shelf life.
Can be almost fully emptied, meaning little to no waste (especially when you use our recyclable bamboo keys to squeeze every last drop of organic goodness from the tube!).
PLUS, IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT
When it comes to sustainability, it's often the little things that are overlooked, like the toxic glue that binds a plastic cap to an outer, seemingly environmentally friendly lid. We've worked hard to overcome these small things, so that when we claim we're sustainable, we can back it up.
IN ADDITION TO OUR INNOVATIVE ECO-PULP OUTER-PACKAGING AND ALUMINUM TUBES, WE ALSO USE THE FOLLOWING IN OUR PACKAGING:
CERTIFICATIONS
For us, certifications are an important part of our commitment to regenerative beauty and creating products you can trust to do the right thing by you and our planet.
IMPORTANT CERTIFICATIONS INCLUDE:
COMPLETING THE CIRCLE
Caring for our planet is about more than minimizing waste and protecting our soil, no matter how important those things are. It's also about best practice when it comes to supply chains, manufacturing, and giving back in a meaningful way.
