The Sustainable Beauty Revolution

Why is sustainability so important?

Because the beauty industry needs to adopt a more circular, climate friendly approach to the way it shares its products, that's why.

Did you know, for example, that it's responsible for creating and using 120 billion units of packaging annually, a lot of it plastic? That's a lot of packaging. To put it into perspective, if you were to stack all those packages one beside the other and walk past them, you'd end up traveling the same distance as it would take to circle the Earth 270 times!

Add in the fact that 18 million acres of forest are lost to the beauty industry annually, that there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish by 2050, and that most plastics take 400 years to break down, and it's clear we have a problem.

As an industry, we're beginning to take steps in the right direction, but we do need to get over our dependence on plastic and extraneous packaging, and embrace sustainability. Our very future and the long-term viability of our planet depends upon it.

Here's what we're doing to look after our planet, so it can look after us...

We're Breaking the Mold! Compostable, Eco-Pulp Outer Packaging

We're immensely proud to be leading the way with our molded, eco-pulp outer packaging. When it comes to sustainability, this packaging has several unique advantages over conventional beauty packaging. It is:

  • Recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable within 90 days.
  • Made from plentiful, easily collected materials which are renewable and wholly natural (sugarcane bagasse, wood pulp, wheat straw pulp, wastepaper, and other eco-natural plant fibers).
  • Manufactured without harmful gases, effluent liquor, or waste residue.
  • Lightweight, strong, and flexible, helping to protect the product.

PCR Aluminum Tubes - Designed for Circularity

We use high quality aluminum tubes throughout our skincare and hybrid makeup lines. Representing the latest in eco-innovation, these tubes are:

  • 95% PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled Aluminum) meaning they're made from aluminum that was destined for disposal if it hadn't been diverted from the waste cycle.
  • 5% PIR (Post-Industrial Recycled Materials) meaning they're made from materials re-used within a company's manufacturing process
  • 100 recycled
  • 100% recycable

Aluminum tubes also come with the following performance and environmental advantages

  • Retain all their outstanding properties, no matter how many times they're recycled.
  • Protect contents from light, air and temperature fluctuations, helping to prevent contamination and preserve the integrity of the product.
  • Have a small carbon footprint, with significantly less emissions than conventional plastic tubes and containers.
  • Have a longer shelf life.
  • Are readily separated from other waste.
  • Can be almost fully emptied, meaning little no waste.
It's The Little Things That Count

When it comes to sustainability, it's often the little things that are overlooked, like the toxic glue that binds a plastic cap to an outer, seemingly environmentally friendly lid. We've worked hard to overcome these small things, so that when we claim we're sustainable, we can back it up.

In addition to our innovative eco-pulp outer-packaging and aluminum tubes, we also use the following in our packaging:

  • Upcyclable and recyclable glass containers.
  • Biodegradable and compostable bamboo caps and tubes keys.
  • Biodegradable and compostable labels
  • Recyclable PET Plastic VAD closures, which are detachable from their bamboo lids.
  • Saved from the ocean, 100% recycled, 100% recyclable, plastic mailer bags (your circular solution to plastic pollution).

And The Things Unseen... Embracing The Environment

For us, the following things are every bit as important as our sustainable packaging:

We use natural, organic ingredients in our products, sourced from organic and biodynamic farms (no synthetic fertilizers and herbicides which denature the land, and no synthetic chemicals which find their way into our precious ecosystems and compromise them).

Supercritical CO2 Extracts

We use supercritical CO2 extracts in all our products. CO2 extraction is a no-waste extraction methodology with zero run-off, unlike conventional extraction technologies.

One Product, One Tree

We plant one tree for every product purchased (our partners at Eden Reforestation are not only helping to regenerate forest and wetlands, they're also providing a helping hand to impoverished people - and communities - across the globe).
